Au Pair Care and Au Pair's Driving
I wanted to send you something positive. Because of your resource here, we matched with a lovely au pair from Germany through Au Pair Care. She is just finishing her first year (she will not be staying for the extension year) with us and she has done a marvelous job, just fantastic. The kids love her, my wife trusts her and we have a great relationship, like father/daughter. We also have communicated several times with her parents and they are coming over for a week before the au pair finishes her program. We are opening our home to them.
We wanted to thank you Edina, for providing such a wonderful service to us and its free. We would have paid up to $100 for the right to read and have all of this information at our fingertips! Thank you!
We also wanted to let other host families know that if they are still looking for a reliable, safe and sound au pair agency, that actually cares about their customers (both au pairs and parents) I cannot recommend Au Pair Care highly enough.
I also wanted to add, the driving skills of our au pair, who is only 19, are incredible. She was better than her application assessed her at and she got even better throughout the year. We were completely okay with her driving out kids around town and what a boon that is for 2 working parents! you have no idea what a relief it is (well, maybe you do!) to find such an excellent au pair agency and au pair resource.

This is a complaint about Au pair in america
The worst au pair agency for drivers? Au pair in america. Hands down - this is the worse agency in terms of screening for drivers. I know they cannot test their driving, but they allow their agents abroad to write on the girls' applications "Good drivers' when they are not - how do they do this rating? by looking at how long a girl has been driving. that is just one criteria they should represent. I had a thai au pair from this agency and her driving was scored as "excellent" and when she arrived she was in a major car accident within the first week. When we confronted au pair she admitted she just got her license and the agent told her to put down "excellent" and to tell us that during the interview (she did) in order for us to match with her. When we epxlained this to office in Stamford CT, they made all kinds of excuses and actually blamed us for not being "careful enough" during our phone interview!!!
Do not use this agency - use another agency that at leasts tries to screen for driving! This was 2 years ago, so I don't think anything has changed all that much. They do recruit a lot of thais because all of their German au pairs, who are great drivers, will not come into their program, they all go to other agencies, like Au pair Care. I don't know why, but it must be all about au pair service.
