VIDEO: How to Calculate Au Pair Costs

Hello readers,

One of the many questions we receive here at aupairclearinghouse is how much will an au pair cost?  How much is it for the year?  How much do I pay weekly, etc.?

Although it depends on what agency you decide to sign up with, the calculations are basically the same.  You can the stiped (which is now $195.75) and multiple that by 51 weeks.  Then you add to that the program fees (which can vary from agency to agency, $6,000 - $8000), and usually there is an application fee of $350.  Add this up and divide by 51 weeks and you will get a figure anywhere from $300 - $400 a week.  And that is for the entire family (all children) compared to daycare, where each child is charged a day rate.

I found a great video that explains this in a very clear and simple manner, using a board, step by step.  Susan Robinson, AuPairAnswerMom at Cultural Care, does the video and she also talks about other, additional costs as well: educational fees, car insurance, etc.  In the well-done video, Ms. Robinson,  Vice President at Cultural Care, also discusses, briefly, what the program fees cover.
