Hollywood Stars Prefer Male Au Pairs or "Mannies"
The newest trend in parenting for Hollywood stars, like Madonna and Gwyneth Paltrow, is having a male au pair, or "mannie" to care for their famous children. In the last few years, high-powered celebrities have made mannies a popular fad in Hollywood. Although the role of au pair has always traditionally been that of a girl, it is becoming more and more common for boys to also want to travel abroad and work as an au pair.
And why not? While it is understandable why some families, particularly those with daughters, might still prefer a female au pair, actually there are some huge advantages to choosing a boy which are often over-looked:
- Mannies suffer less from homesickness
- Mannies are often better drivers
- Mannies can do heavier work
- Mannies tend to be more active and sports oriented
These are only some of the advantages in hosting a "mannie" or male au pair. To read more, see our article on Mannies. To read more about mannies and the Hollywood parents who are hiring them, see our latest press release "Mannies: Hollywood Trend."
