Is it true au pair agencies no longer recruit in Russia as of NOW?

I have a friend in Russia who is trying to come as an au pair through the Cultural Care agency. Just this morning she told me, that the agency informed them that the program in Russia is closing, and if they want to leave, they have to leave by August. No more after that.

Is it true? She said it is for all the agencies, so I assume it is a new State Department rule? I did a quick google search this morning, and didn't find anything about it..

Hi Edina, I just found out

Hi Edina,

I just found out that AuPairUSA agency also no longer works with Russia! This must be very new, because I had a Russian au pair through them until the end of April 09.
What is going on, the agencies are dropping Russia like a hot potato?
Which agencies do remain in Russia? I know GoAuPair worked with them, do they still? And who else? Another acquantance asked AuPairCare and Au Pair in America agencies, and got a negative reply from them (no representatives in Russia). This is all hearsay though because I haven't checked personally - but I am really curious now as to what is going on!

goAUPAIR.com works with Russian Au Pairs

Hi Anna,

I also heard back from goAUPAIR.com.  They said they are continuing to work with Russia, have several au pairs from Russia on their way to host families here in the USA - and have not heard anything about a regulation prohibiting Russian au pairs from coming to this country.  Expert Au Pair does not currently recruit from Russia, but they said they have not heard of any restrictions either.  You can check with the consulate in Moscow if you really want to know further details: http://moscow.usembassy.gov/contact-us2.html.

Edina, thank you for the

Edina, thank you for the information.
You know, if a russian au pair read your words about poor and disadvantaged, they would be horribly insulted, LOL.

The Economy May be Affecting Prospective Au Pairs from Russia

Hi Anna,

Well, it may be that Russian au pairs are having a harder time coming up with the necessary fees to apply to the cultural programs.  It can be expensive for many prospective au pairs, especially those coming from underpriveleged or economically failing areas.

We are making our inquiries and will get back to you!

We have not heard anything like this at all, but we are checking!

goAUPAIR Continues to Recruit from Russia

Hi Anna,

We communicated with goAUPAIR.com and they said they are still receiving and accepting Russian applicants and they are obtaining their visas.  Right now, they have several Russian applicants waiting to match with families.

They also said they have not received any indication that there is any truth to the comments that Russia is closing their doors to the cultural exchange programs and that goAUPAIR intends to continue to work with Russia and will continue to recruit au pairs from that country.

I hope this helps you and your friend who is interested in obtaining an au pair from Russia!

Cultural Care and Russian Au Pairs

Anna, Cultural Care stated today that they have stopped recruiting from Russia.  They also said they did not know of any Government regulations regarding closing down Russia - it is just Cultural Care's decision to close down their program in Russia.  Probably not enough au pairs signing up.

Edina

Thank you Edina, I will tell

Thank you Edina, I will tell my friend to try going through another agency!
I don't know if it is a problem of quantity; it seems that this program is growing in popularity among young women in Europe. I suspect the problem is quality. Did they give you a reason?
