Hosting A Male Au Pair

We discuss male au pairs here on our website Can Boys be Au Pairs To?

Has anyone hosted a male au pair before?

We would love to hear your experiences with a male au pair.  It is not common for American families to host a male au pair - but it is very common in Europe and in Asia.

We think the trend will become more popular here in the states as male au pairs become more available and growing news stories that focus on the positive attributes of male au pairs continue to be reported in the media.

Male Au Pairs

I have a friend who used a male au pair. He was great - he was very active and did a lot of work that the former girls would not do - for example, he shoveled out the driveway in the snow, he took out the heavy garbage pails each week, and carried in the groceries for my single mom friend. She had two young boys and the male au pair had them out every day playing soccer in the yard - and when my girlfriend came home, the kids were tuckered out and they stopped whinning - I guess they were bored sitting inside all the time, watching tv with the former au pairs who did not like going out and playing ball. If you have boys, and need a "man" around the house, go for it! He wasn't bad on the eyes, either! Ha ha.

Okay, Boys can Be Au Pairs too!

Yes and yes, I think males can make great au pairs and then some cannot, like the girls. Sex, or gender, may not be such an issue as some Americans think - what are the differences anyway, except maybe males can drive a bit better? Why is that? I think I know the answer - males probably drive MORE, thus they have MORE experience.

Males drive better?!

What gives you this impression!
